Principals

Frederick C. Lake

Frederick C. Lake

Co-founded Lake Partners, Inc. in 1989. As Co-Chairman of the firm, Rick oversees the firm's research on mutual funds and ETFs that utilize alternative strategies and helps direct the company's team effort in asset allocation, investment research, and multi-manager investment programs. Rick has over 36 years of experience in the investment industry.

Rick is the manager of Lake Partners' LASSO Long and Short Strategic Opportunities portfolio of alternative mutual funds. He is also manager of the firm's LASSO alternative ETF portfolios, and multi-asset growth and income portfolios utilizing mutual funds and ETFs.

Rick is a well-known speaker and author on alternative investments. He has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Barron's, the Financial Times, Investor's Business Daily, and Bloomberg, among other publications.

As an invited speaker at the national 2003 SEC Hedge Fund Roundtable, Rick presented his white paper, "The Democratization of Hedge Funds," analyzing the public policy issues of alternative strategies in mutual funds. Rick has also been an invited speaker at the Morningstar® Investment Conference, the London Business School, the MIT Sloan Investment Management Conference, the Yale School of Management and at financial industry conferences around the US.

Rick has appeared on CNBC and Bloomberg Television and Radio.

Rick began his investment career with Prudential Securities, after earning his Bachelor's degree, cum laude, from Harvard in 1980.

Ronald A. Lake

Ronald A. Lake

Co-founded Lake Partners, Inc. in 1989. As Co-Chairman and President, Ron is responsible for asset allocation, investment strategy, and program supervision. He has over 35 years of experience in the design, implementation, and supervision of investment programs for financial institutions, funds of funds, high net worth individuals and families, trusts, foundations and endowments, pensions, and private investment companies.

Ron is co-manager of Lake Partners' LASSO Long and Short Strategic Opportunities portfolio of alternative mutual funds. He also is the manager of a complementary strategy, LASSO Plus.

Prior to the formation of Lake Partners, Inc., Ron was involved in manager and investment research, specializing in non-traditional areas (hedge funds, venture capital, leveraged buyouts, real estate, and global investing). He also served on the program and policy staff of Governor Thompson of Illinois.

Ron earned a Bachelor's degree, magna cum laude, from Harvard in 1976 and a Master's degree in public policy (MCRP) from Harvard in 1978.

Research Team

Kevin M. Scully

Kevin M. Scully

As Senior Investment Analyst, Kevin is involved in manager and strategy research, performance analysis, and client reporting.

Prior to joining Lake Partners in 2008, Kevin was an Actuarial Analyst with the Boston office of Milliman, Inc., where he was involved in a variety of property and casualty consulting assignments, including reserve analyses and feasibility studies. He worked with a wide range of clients, including multi-line property and casualty insurance companies, self-insured corporations, captive insurance companies, and state insurance departments.

Kevin received his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Boston University in 2002.

Benjamin D. Lake, CFA, CFP®

Benjamin D. Lake, CFA, CFP®

As Co-Portfolio Manager, Multi-Asset Strategies, Ben is involved in the firm’s MANGO and ETF strategies as well as general manager, strategy, and macro research, performance analysis and reporting, and program communications.

Prior to joining Lake Partners in 2012, Ben was an Associate at Casey Quirk & Associates LLC, a management consulting firm focused on the investment industry, where he was involved in analyzing business trends, financial modeling, and due diligence. Previously, Ben was an Analyst with the macro team at Pacific Epoch, an investment research firm in Shanghai, China, where he produced reports on China's monetary policies, economic trends, and various business sectors, including automobiles, steel, dry bulk shipping, and quick service restaurants.

Ben graduated from Northwestern University in 2009, receiving a Bachelor of Arts with honors in Asian and Middle Eastern Language and Civilization with a concentration in China and a minor in Economics. Ben is fluent in Mandarin. He is a CFA® charterholder and is an active member of the New York Society of Security Analysts. He is also a CFP®.

Andrew A. Romanello

Andrew A. Romanello

As Chief Financial Officer and Chief Compliance Officer, Andrew oversees the firm’s accounting, operational, control, and regulatory functions.

Prior to joining Lake Partners in 2014, Andrew was the Chief Financial Officer and member of the management committee at Dreman Value Management, where he was responsible for firm financial controls and treasury functions as well as the accounting, operations, and regulatory reporting for proprietary mutual funds, wrap programs, and separately managed accounts. Previously, Andrew held accounting and operations positions within the investment management industry at Lyster Watson and Co., an SEC registered investment advisor, American Express Bank, Ltd., an offshore private bank, and the Bank of New York.

Andrew received his Bachelor of Science in Accountancy in 2001 and his Master of Science in Accountancy in 2011 from Saint Peter’s University. He is a licensed CPA in the state of New York.

Jennifer E. Lake

Jennifer E. Lake

As Administrative Director, Jenny supports corporate, client, and research administration and operations.

Prior to joining Lake Partners in 2016, Jenny had a long career in management for the performing arts. She served in multiple roles at the Stamford Center for the Arts, including general manager and acting executive director. Jenny began her career with Broadway producer Alexander H. Cohen, creator of the televised Tony awards.

Jenny earned her B.A. from Bates College in Sociology in 1983, and attended Columbia University Graduate School.
